Marinara Sauce

LT   Pomidoras man yra daržovių daržovė visais metų laikais. Bent jau man tai tikrai!

EN   Tomato is the king vegetable for me all year round. Yes, the taste during winter season is not the best like in the summer, but that doesn't stop me, because there are plenty different types of them. I never get bored of tomatoes, they almost go well with everything, always refreshing, so I can clearly say that tomato is my vegetable. Even scrolling through recipes, my eyes always involuntary catches everything red, even though it's not my favorite color at all :) Today I share with you incredibly tasty Marinara sauce which is perfect with pasta and pizza. If you haven't yet found the best tomato sauce and if you love them as much as I do, so then here it is, the best Marinara sauce, real deliciousness. At least for me it is!

Marinara Sauce adapted from the SMPL
  • 1 didelis svogūnas // 1 big onion, finely chopped
  • 2 skiltelės svogūno // 2 cloves of garlic

P.S. Baziliką ir petražoles galite naudoti ir šviežius. Aš kadangi jų neturėjau, tai pakeičiau džiovintais.

EN   In a saucepan heat the olive oil on medium heat. Add the onion and saute (stirring often) for 5-8 minutes until onions are translucent and soft. Squash peeled garlic through a garlic crusher and continuously stir for another minute or two. Add the basil, parsley and oregano (I used all of them dried) and stir continuously for another minute or two until you smell the fragrant herbs. Add tomatoes, salt and pepper and stir everything so it’s nicely mixed and bring the sauce to a boil. Once the sauce boils reduce it to low heat and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes (this is the minimum but the sauce can simmer as long as you have time). After the twenty minutes or once you are ready to finish the sauce, add 2-3 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar and stir. Give the sauce a test, if needed you can add salt/pepper or even more of balsamic vinegar. Voilà, ready to serve!
P.S. You can use fresh basil and fresh parsley instead. As I didn't have fresh, so I replaced them with dried.

  4. This sounds so good! I really like making my own pasta sauces but I haven't done it in a while because a) I'm lazy when it comes to cooking and b) I live back home so my mum does most of the cooking :P However this reminds me that I should organize a dinner with friends again!
